A Kid's Perspective: Judging a Book By Its Cover (6)

Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 5 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!

This week is the Mara Dyer Edition!

"I think it's about rules, good rules. If someone else needs help, you help them. When you are helping someone, make sure you are being careful so you don't hurt them. He's helping her get out of the water."

Cover Art:

(He said the cover was 'too hard' to draw so we chose one of the many other pictures taken from the same photoshot as the cover.)

"In this book I think that the girl is trying to pull up the boy because he can't swim that well. Then they hold hands and swim to the end of the water."

And since I calls this 'Designs By Shawn', I thought I would share a little design I recently got this week for my birthday:
I've been planning this tattoo for quite awhile. This is Shawn's name in HIS OWN handwriting! Simple and special and I absolutely love it. (Sorry this isn't the greatest picture of it. It was taken immediately afterwards.)

Now that Shawn is back in school, there might be a little more time in between these posts. *sadface* But I am hoping we can keep this going at least 2 times a month. I hope you enjoyed Shawn's thoughts and artwork this week. Let me (and Shawn) know what you think! :)

  2. aww that was great! I agree that the first cover looks really hard to draw! And the first book is kind of about Noah helping Mara so he is a bit on track! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Aw, I missed these posts!
I'm with Shawn on the first cover. I have no idea what it's about. Is he pulling her out of the water or trying to keep her in the water.
And tell Shawn he did an awesome job in the second cover.
    Awesome tattoo!
