Inspired by an article on Babble called, Judging a Book by Its Cover: A 6-year-old Guesses What Classic Novels Are All About, I have asked my 6 year old what his thoughts are on a few Young Adult covers lying around the house. To take it a step further, I also had him make some cover art!
This week we have two to share with you!
"I think Sweethearts is about a heart cookie with pink frosting and brown dough. Somebody took a bite and saved the rest for later because he didn't like it at first, but he tried it again and liked it."

"This is about a yellow cactus with falling pieces. Somebody cut it down because they found it and liked it. They cut it down for themselves."

ReplyDeleteI think that cookie comment is very profound and actually captures the spirit of the book, which (if you haven't read it) is about a pair of childhood friends. One of them disappears for a while and then comes back.

This is too cute. I haven't read Sweethearts, but I agree with jen, profound.
ReplyDeleteMy baby wouldn't even look at my books, he just hands them to me and then gets a thomas the tank engine book to read instead. Maybe he'll be more interested when he's a bit older! Maybe I should ask the boyfriend what he thinks they're about based on the covers, I bet that would yield some interesting answers!
